The FBI Norfolk Citizens’ Academy Alumni
Association (FBINORCAAA) hosted a play at the Norfolk Little
Theater on Saturday, November 13th to raise money for
community outreach projects.
For the past three years the alumni
association has been able to get a private viewing of a play in
the Norfolk Little Theater which seats approximately 200 people.
Each year, $20 provides attendees with a ticket to the play,
light hors d’oeuvres, and wine—all donated by alumni members to
enjoy at a reception before the show.
Profits have increased annually as alumni
members have added a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction to the
event. In 2007, approximately $3k was made, in 2008 it was
$4.5k, and this year, about $6k was expected.
This year’s play, A Few Good Men, told the
story of military lawyers at a court martial who uncover a
high-level conspiracy in the course of defending their clients.
Attendees enjoyed a special guest appearance by Don Marcari, the
real Navy Judge Advocate General (JAG) lawyer depicted in the
movie, as he spoke about his experience working the case.
Several employees from the Norfolk Field
Office were in attendance.

Hampton Roads Citizens Police Academy CREST
25
September 2010

The Norfolk FBI hosted a Community
Relations Executive Seminar Training (CREST) in Newport
News for 60 graduates of local citizens’ police
academies to give them an inside look at the FBI and to
foster relationships in the community.
Assistant
Special Agent in Charge Shawn Stroud began the seminar
with an overview of the FBI, and the mission and
structure of the Norfolk Field Office. The morning
session continued with presentations by Special Agents
who focused on Terrorism, Innocent Images Initiative,
Maritime Security, PATRIOT Act, and Weapons of Mass
Destruction.
The subject
that sparked the most interest was the PATRIOT Act, as
many attendees thought the FBI was able to perform
surveillance without the execution of a warrant or court
order. Norfolk FBI’s Chief Division Counsel explained
that the PATRIOT Act was created to help the FBI “intercept
and obstruct terrorism.”
At the end of the day, Assistant
Special Agent in Charge Willie Session spoke about his
experiences in the FBI and spoke about ways the Norfolk
Division is working to build relationships with the
diverse communities of Hampton Roads, Virginia.
Each participant received a Certificate of
Completion and an opportunity to ask questions about
topics not discussed during the CREST. “I’m glad you
came out and shared this information,” said one
participant. The Norfolk Citizens’ Academy
Alumni Association graciously provided light
refreshments for the event.
